Saturnalia & Wheels of Aurelia

Santa Ragione

I have twice collaborated as a writer with the Italian studio Santa Ragione, on their 2016 road trip narrative Wheels of Aurelia and on their upcoming 2021 survival horror adventure Saturnalia.

On Saturnalia I was brought in to take a story structure and set of characters from the existing scraps of dialogue to a fully-written and implemented shipped game. This involved both rewriting existing material in various stages of progress as well as generating a great deal of new material, plus the narrative design work to integrate the writing into their in-house dynamic dialogue framework. I wrote a large proportion of the material that ultimately shipped in the game, alongside a co-writer whom I brought in.

My involvement on Wheels of Aurelia, my first project with Santa Ragione, involved reshaping a large quantity of interactive dialogue generated by the Italian creative duo We Are Muesli—ensuring it flowed naturally in English, preserving its emotional authenticity, and maintaining its historical accuracy to its setting in politically turbulent 1970s Italy. As on Saturnalia, this project involved not just writing, but also implementation of material into the studio’s proprietary interactive narrative framework.
